 Show of Hands

This series of installations is a collection of multiple pieces and parts designed to be adaptable and portable and responsive to a variety of temporary environments. They are repeatable installations also designed to be interchangeable or recombined into new site-specific compositions. I’m building a vocabulary, exploring pattern, color relationships using appropriated, socially significant hand signals of our time.

The gloves are mass-produced everyday items. Frozen in repetitive, familiar, contemporary hand signals, reflective of gestures pulled from social media, political movements, emotional states and opinion polls. The canvas circles are containers with boundaries and borders. Black or white glove on a contrasting background or color explore traditional art and design theory that speaks to a viewers cultural identity and community connections.
